Mealtimes

Preparing meals and cleaning up takes up a major portion of time. Our group is divided into servant groups - each servant group has responsibility for either preparing or cleaning up one meal a day. Meal prep and clean-up can take several hours so there is plenty of time for conversation and bonding.

We continue to try new ways of doing things. This year, after seeing how chaotic the meal serving time was, one of our youth suggested trying a different way. About 45 minutes before the meal, we ask all the children to leave the kitchen. We then closed the doors and set all the places with food, drink and silverware. When the bell rings, the children come in, we say grace and the meal begins. We have all decided that it is much less crazy than our previous method.
